How One Donated School Sign Helped Breathe New Life into a Small Victorian Town
A small community near Daylesford is getting a new way to share local events thanks to an unexpected act of generosity from a regional school.
Last year, Sarah from School Signs received an enquiry from Korweinguboora, a small town located just outside Daylesford. The local community wanted to install a changeable sign outside their recreation hall to help catch the attention of tourists passing through and promote local events.
The goal was to bring more people into town, create more awareness around community events and generate a little extra income for the hall.
When Sarah provided pricing for a new sign, it became clear it was out of reach for the town’s budget.
Geoff from Korweinguboora explained that while the community loved the idea, raising enough money for a brand-new sign simply was not realistic. Sarah explored a few alternative options with him, but none of them quite solved the problem.
Before wrapping up the conversation, Sarah made Geoff a promise.
She told him that if a school upgraded from a changeable sign to one of School Signs’ digital signs, she would ask whether they would consider donating their old sign.
A few months later, that opportunity came along.
Sarah met Tegan, Principal of St Patrick’s Primary School Koroit, who was preparing to upgrade the school’s signage with a new digital display.
That is when Sarah shared Korweinguboora’s story.
Tegan immediately loved the idea and didn’t hesitate.
The school was more than happy to donate the old sign so it could continue serving another community.
Sarah connected Geoff and Tegan, and the partnership quickly took on a life of its own. When Geoff shared the news with the Korweinguboora community, excitement spread throughout the town.
According to Geoff, people were stopping him in the street to ask about the sign and celebrate the news.

Recently, St Patrick’s Primary School Koroit had its new digital sign installed, and members of the Korweinguboora community made the trip to collect the old sign. It was also the first time Geoff and Tegan met in person.
To help complete the project, the School Signs team donated a brand-new ACM panel for the top of the sign so it could proudly display Korweinguboora’s name.
As Geoff Botsman from Korweinguboora shared:
“Without your willingness to help us, this would simply not be happening. We are so grateful to you!”
What started as a conversation about a sign became something much bigger.
The school sign donation gave a small town a practical way to promote local events and brought two communities together in the process.
Sometimes the best outcomes come from people simply looking out for one another.
