In Queensland, there are a total of 1258 public schools in addition to 548 private, Catholic, and independent schools. Public school students in Queensland have access to a wide selection of programmes that have won awards, high-quality instruction, and pathways to further education and vocational training. About 37% of Queensland’s schools can be found in the major cities, while the remaining 63% can be found in either regional or remote locations. A full map of school locations is available to be viewed and searched.

Students in Queensland have access to a wide variety of educational settings, including State Delivered Kindergartens, hospital schools, special schools, and schools that are physically located within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. All of these settings are available to students across the state.

Prior to the year 2015, the education system in the state of Queensland was composed of primary schools, which served students from kindergarten all the way up to Year 7 (ages 5–13), and high schools, which served students from Years 8 all the way up to Year 12, respectively. Primary and high schools were separated into two distinct categories (ages 12–18). On the other hand, the first year of high school was considered to be the seventh grade beginning in the school year 2015–2016.
